Boyhood Dream...fulfilled

I have long admired cars even before I learned to walk. But, in the world where we are spoiled for choice… there was one automaker that always stuck with me since childhood. In fact, I used to have cutouts of that car from magazines in my diary.

It was this design that I fell in love with. My mom was proudly watching me being fascinated with a car that was well beyond my reach or even affordability.

In the year 2002, I promised her that I would be purchasing the 2020 model of this car. She then proceeded to tell me to study hard and make that dream a reality. Until the year 2018, there was absolutely no chance of making this dream come true. As I was still residing in India, luxury taxes are sometimes 120% or more.

When I chose to pursue my MBA, one of the primary considerations I had was to have this dream within reach. Just because of the car affordability portion, I had eliminated applying to Business Schools in Singapore. I headed for the US in 2019.

When the year 2020 was about to end, my Mom sent me the picture above and reminded me about my promise and laughed out loud. But then, only I knew how the fire inside was still burning with all the fuel in the world.

In the year 2023, I did make my dream come true.

It was such a thrilling moment the first time I touched the logo! My hand trembled and I felt faint for about a minute. The day I took delivery, I almost fell sick. I get it, I am emotional for silly things. But, you need to understand that this is a twenty-one-year-old dream coming true!

To childhood dreams and persistence. Wish I had the people who missed out on my growth journey along with me, now. Tough times don’t last, tough people do.

Goodbye, VW. Hello, BMW.
